Army of Thieves Review: “Army of Thieves” has its connections to “Army of Dead,” but it’s mostly comfortable being its own thing with a charismatic cast, including a pleasingly nervous turn from Schweighofer. There’s an antagonist in Delacroix, yet the real pleasures of the picture are found away from formula, embracing the oddity of fantasy safecracking and bicycle chases around Prague, with the production occasionally finding its own rhythms and interesting challenges for the team. The writing eventually gets too knotted with secret motivations, trying to turn the endeavor into something twisty to keep viewers invested in the expanding crime. “Army of Thieves” isn’t the epic “Army of Dead” was, which is a good thing, giving Schweighofer a chance to make his own movie, going the caper route with a clear love of the game.
